Biography
Blake Tollison Shelton was born on June 18, 1976, in Ada, Oklahoma, U.S. He grew up in a family where his father worked in used-car sales and his mother owned a beauty salon. He began writing songs and performing at a young age, and by his mid-teens he was playing locally and won a top young entertainer award in Oklahoma. Two weeks after graduating high school, he moved to Nashville to pursue a songwriting and recording career.
Shelton’s breakthrough came in 2001 with his debut single “Austin,” which became a number one country hit and spent several weeks at the top of the charts. He released his self-titled debut album that year and steadily built a career combining traditional country, blue-collar themes, a charismatic persona, and crossover appeal.
